Atticus Calum is here :)

He's here!!! April 25th, 8lbs 11oz, 21.5" long. Here is the full story for anyone interested Smile

So Monday the 25th I'd been running errands all morning. I felt crampy but nothing noteworthy. I had actually commented to a friend that nothing was going on and he was totally not coming out in the next 3 weeks, HA! While Finn was 'napping' (read- destroying his room) I had my first real contraction at 2:30pm. Not gonna lie, I totally blew it off. I had been having contractions randomly for weeks, and one was a joke. By 3pm (yeah, only 30 min later) I was having contractions every 3 minutes. They were short, only 45-60 seconds, but they were coming FAST. Called Jay at work, told him I thought it was time, and he should call his parents to come get Finn. In the next 45 min I left my midwife (Pamela!!!) a message, stripped down (it is now confirmed I like laboring naked as they come, LOL), and got in the tub. Shout Out of the day to Little Einsteins for occupying Finn. Jay got home, his dad came and took Finn, and Jay got on the phone with Pamela. She agreed this was it (I was moaning in the background), and to wait an hour or two and then call her again. The next hour sucked, I spent it naked, in random places all over the house, moaning and crying. When the hour was up I told Jay to call Pam and tell her we were coming in. So we loaded up the car, I miraculously put on enough clothes to walk outside, and we headed to the hospital. The drive was horrible, and it was about 5:30, so rush hour, but I lived. Got to the hospital, went to triage, and I was an 8 - a very in pain and miserable 8, LOL. The wheeled me in the bed to my room immediately, where we met up with Pam. I stripped down (again), and am soooo happy my photographer made it in time Smile Labored for just over an hour and hit MISERABLE. I was crying, and begging for a break, contractions were on top of one and other with absolutely no break. Pam offered to check me, and as she did my water broke - all the way up her arm, and to make it extra special, there was meconium (Finn had it as well). Jay said her face was priceless, LOL. So the next contraction is pure hell, and I'm screaming my head off, and all of a sudden my body was pushing. There was no stopping it, and no one was ready. Pam was telling me to slow down, and I tried my hardest, but someone else had other plans. Just 4 minutes and 3 contractions from my water breaking Atticus made his grand debut Smile Total labor from random naptime contraction to delivery was about 4 hours and 45 minutes. A SHOCK after Finns 17 hour shoulder dystocia extravaganza. I had a 2nd degree tear, but Pamela said it was right over my old scar, and unavoidable since he came flying out. Atticus did have to go to the nursery, the amniotic fluid/meconium smelled horribly, and they wanted to make sure he didn't have an unknown infection (all clear Smile ) and was well suctioned since he came out so fast. He had a lot of bruising from his mad dash into the world, and only passed his hearing screen on one side, which they think was from gunk in his ears, we follow up with that in June. He looks EXACTLY like Finn - I'm going to dig up some baby Finn pics and do a side by side, its kind of ridiculous how much they look alike. He is breastfeeding like a champ as well Smile My cloth diapering didn't go quite as seamlessly as I hoped - he wore his cute special first diaper, and promptly soaked it in 20 minutes, and Jay was with him in the nursery with no more cloth. Then we had a meconium poop and I promptly decided I was not washing that out of my brand new diapers, LOL - so hes in sposies until he has a real poop.

We are home, and although I think we both feel overwhelmed, we are both more laid back and more confident. I feel shockingly great, I've already been to the store, and I don't care if it actually flattens my belly, but the abdominal binder is WONDERFUL. Helps my back a ton and that empty belly feeling. Confident but overwhelmed... that's an excellent way to describe the first few weeks (months) with baby #2! Cherish the chaos - it passes even more quickly the second time. I still feel like Justin was born yesterday and Travis was born the day before that. But now Justin is already on the verge of walking. You've given me a bad case of the Baby Fever!

thanks for sharing your story! I'm glad this labor was much faster! Moms are always amazed how quickly the 2nd one comes (usually!). Enjoy your new little one ;)
