Why we've been buying a house! What else should you be doing with a newborn at home?!
It all started when I demanded a mini van (which FTR I still don't have, and it doesn't look like I'm getting...). I told Jay between trade in on my car and savings, we could out right buy one. He told me the savings was for a house. I laughed at him (and yes, am eating my words). He had been sitting on the mortgage brokers phone number for MONTHS, and had never even called her - so I wasn't expecting much. But to shut me up, and get out of buying me a minivan he called her to talk about our options. This is the timeline from there.
Tues April 19th - Jay met with the mortgage broker and (shockingly) got us prequalified for a loan
Wed April 20th - Jay gets home from work and asks why I don't have a list of potential houses waiting for him (not b/c its 'my job' so much as he knew I already had picked a neighborhood and waiting was uncharacteristic of me). So that evening I looked online, found a few houses, one in particular sounded to good to be true, gound the listing agent, and called to set up a time to view the property
Thur April 21st - Call back from listing agent, in 4 short days the property that I thought was too good to be true went on the market and sold. But she would be happy to help us find other properties - magically making her our realtor. She sends me a list Thurs evening.
Fri April 22nd - I send an email back to our realtor with a list of properties we want to view, a combination of her list and mine
Sat April 23rd - We go look at 8 homes. Narrow it down to 3.
Sunday April 24th - Jay and I decide on a house, and call our realtor
Monday April 25th - I spent all morning signing contracts, dropping off the earnest money, making our offer official. 2:30pm I went into labor, and 7:17pm, Atticus showed up.
Tues April 26th (from the hospital) - they countered, we countered back
Wed April 27th - they counter again, we counter one more time. We take baby Atticus home from the hospital
Thurs April 28th - they accept :)
Fast forward, we closed May 26th, after inspections, repairs, appraisals and walk throughs. We luckily have been renting from the nicest people in the free world, and don't need to be out until June 15th - so we spent a few days moving small things and painting, and just moved our furniture on Thursday. Still a few little tings and some cleaning left at the old house, but we're getting there. Here are is a picture of the new casa! (I'll have more once we unpack!)
